WATERLOO — Richard Rouse, 83, passed away peacefully at home after a courageous battle with cancer on Wednesday (July 31, 2024). His graveside service at Maple Grove Cemetery, Waterloo, NY will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trevor's Gift, c/o Linda Wadhams, 66 Virginia St, Waterloo, NY, 13165. Trevor's Gift is a backpack food distribution program for local children in need. Richard was born July 3, 1941 in Waterloo, NY, the son of Carley, Sr. and Mary Alice Putnam Rouse. He was a 1960 graduate of Waterloo High School, and a Navy veteran, serving from 1960 to 1964. Richard retired from Evans Chemetics after many years of employment. He married the love of his life, Julia "Judy" L. Clark Rouse on December 5, 1964. During his retirement he enjoyed round and square dancing with Judy and traveling in their RV out west, plus wintering at Olde Mill Stream in Umatilla, Florida. Richard loved golfing and always said he was a hacker who could never find the right swing to make him a great golfer. He was the most wonderful husband, father and grandfather. Taking care of Judy and his family was the most important part of his life. He was known for always talking to and helping his neighbors and quietly helping children in the community. Richard is survived by his loving wife Judy of Waterloo, NY; son Eric (Teresa) Rouse of Highlands Ranch, CO; daughter Jennifer (Thomas) Spina of Canandaigua, NY; grandchildren Ethan Rouse, Seth Rouse, Jacob (Shannon) Spina and Sarah (Miles) Spina; brother-in-law Keith Tomkins of Fayette, NY; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers Carley "Sonny", Donald and Edward Rouse; and sister Dorothy M. Tomkins.
