NORTH ROSE — LeRoy Graydon Yates, 78, passed away peacefully Monday (March 18, 2024) at home with his loving family by his side.

Family and friends may call from 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday (March 24) at Coe-Genung Funeral Home, 46 West Main St., Waterloo, NY. The funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday (March 25) at the funeral home. Rev. Karen Heit, pastor of the Rose United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the NYS Veterans Cemetery – Finger Lakes, Varick, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Rose United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 100, Rose, NY, 14542.

LeRoy was born April 22, 1945 in Lyons, NY, the son of Robert and Olga Lauster Yates. He was a graduate of Rose High School, and went on to serve his country in the U.S. Navy. LeRoy was a Vietnam War veteran, serving from 1965-1969 and was a Navy Reserve Sailor until 1995. Returning from the service, he worked for the Newark DDSO until his retirement. He then worked in home healthcare for Lifetime Care, formerly Genesee Region Home Care and Hospice. LeRoy was a lifetime member of the Wolcott VFW and American Legion, as well as a member of the Rose United Methodist Church. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying fishing, hunting and camping. He was an avid birder and also enjoyed gardening. More so, he loved and enjoyed being with his family.

LeRoy is survived by his sons Jerome "Jerry" L. Yates of Wolcott, NY, Allan (Keri) Yates of Clyde, NY and Michael R. (Charity) Yates of Wolcott, NY; grandchildren, Kevin Jones, Brandon Jones, Hunter (Carline) Yates, Kyle Slyter, Logan (JazLynn McNeil) Yates and Zoey Yates; great-grandchildren, Jacolby Smith, Lucas Yates, and Marianne Yates; siblings Sharon (Wayne) Rice of Clyde, NY, Craig Yates of Ontario, NY and Carol Geiger of Clyde; cousins; many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his loving wife, Patricia Poormon Yates; his parents; and brother, Robert Yates.
