Obituary of Gary Everett Hood

CAPE CORAL, FL/WATERLOO ? Gary Everett Hood, 74, died on Sunday (October 22, 2023) at the Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center in Woodbridge, VA, with family and friends by his side. Though he was a resident of Cape Coral for several years, he lived in the Seneca Falls, Junius and Waterloo areas for most of his life. Gary was born October 12, 1949, to Everett Guy Hood and Nancy E. Hammon Bowman in Geneva, NY. He was employed with Evans Cosmetics for several years before venturing into self-employment. He owned and operated several businesses, including Gary's Corner Store in Geneva and the Sub Shop in Waterloo. Gary also worked with his close friend Roger Neidigh at Southern Auto Brokers until starting Gary's Auto Sales, which he owned and operated for many years. Upon relocating to his current residence in Cape Coral, Gary worked alongside Roger until retirement. As an Army Veteran who served in Vietnam, Gary was a member of the VFW in Waterloo, Seneca Falls, and Cape Coral, and the American Legion in Waterloo and Cape Coral. Gary is survived by his daughter Cheri Hood Daly; grandson Tristan Daly; ex-wife Sandy Dressing Hood; sisters Louise Horth and Cathy Davis; lifelong friend Warren Fredericksen; and many family and longtime friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Everett Guy Hood and Nancy E. Hammon Bowman; stepfather Alton Bowman; brother William Hood; and three nephews. A public graveside service with full military honors will be on November 3, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Maple Grove Cemetery, Waterloo, NY. The Celebration of Life will be on November 5, 2023 at 3:00 PM at the Elks Lodge, 2221 W Bayard St, Seneca Falls, NY 13148. All family and friends are invited, and everyone is encouraged to bring a photo to share, a story to tell, and wear their best Floridian shirt.
