WATERLOO/FAIRPORT – Thomas W. Olschewske passed away unexpectedly Saturday, August 19, 2023. Tom is predeceased by his parents, Betty June Holmes and Eldon L. Olschewske. He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Joan Buchholz Olschewske; children Jennifer (Jeremy) Taylor, Stephen (Christina) Olschewske, Lindsay (Ben) Goodall, Andrew (Monica) Olschewske; grandchildren Dakota (Alyssa), Cheyenne, Audrey, Peyton, Eli, Zachary, Caiden, Austin, Caleb, Isaac, and Adam; and one great-grandchild, Naomi.
Tom grew up in the Waterloo, NY. He graduated from Waterloo High School, where he was a star on the track and field and wrestling teams. He attended Alfred Technical College and worked for 38 years for Alstom Transport. He lived in Fairport, NY for 25 years before moving to Big Canoe, GA, where he regularly attended Big Canoe Chapel. He enjoyed traveling with his family from coast to coast, as well as vacationing in Alaska, Hawaii, the Bahamas, the Mayan Riviera, Cabo San Lucas, Jamaica, St. Thomas, Costa Rica, Puerto Rico, and Canada.
Tom enjoyed his lake house and had a passion for boating on Seneca Lake, Canandaigua Lake, the Erie Canal, and North Pond Lake. He loved having good meals at Jay's Diner in Henrietta, NY, The Brewster Inn in Cazenovia, NY and The Silo in Greene, NY, as well as dining with their neighbors June and Randy. Tom was a huge Fairport Raiders football fan, watching both of his sons as well as his grandson play. He also loved the Buffalo Bills, with only his sons being bigger fans than he was. If not watching the Bills, you could find him watching shows about science and astronomy.
Tom loved his family and adored his dog, Punky Sue. Every evening, he and Joan could be seen taking their daily walks around the neighborhood: Joan walking, and Tom and Punky Sue riding on the scooter.
