Obituary of Gordon Bennett

Waterloo - Gordon D. Bennett, 78, died Sunday (September 15, 2013) at Clifton Springs Hospital and Clinic in Clifton Springs.
Friends may call 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday (Sept. 18) at Coe-Genung Funeral Home in Waterloo. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday (Sept. 19) at Calvary Lutheran Church, 2414 Route 414, Waterloo. Rev. William Dorow, Jr., pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Waterloo.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Lutheran Church.
Gordon was born May 24, 1935 in Fredonia, the son of Gordon H. and Allene Horn Bennett. He was a graduate of Dunkirk High School. Gordon served in the U.S. Air Force, for four years. Returning from the service, he married his wife of 56 years. He graduated from Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio and earned his masters degree from Oswego State University. Gordon retired from Waterloo Central School District after teaching more than 30 years. He was member of Calvary Lutheran Church, the Korean War Vets, Waterloo Memorial Post 6433, V.F.W. and Warner VanRiper Post 435, American Legion. Gordon, was a lifetime member of Fredonia Grange No. 1, the first grange in the U.S.
He is survived by his loving wife, Ruth Anne Skinner Bennett; one sister, Shirley Lewitzky of Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada; and five nephews.
