Obituary of James LaVern Shaw

WATERLOO – James L. Shaw, 84, of Waterloo, NY, passed away Monday (May 22, 2023) at Living Center at Geneva – North.
The committal service with military rites will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday (June 6) at the New York State Veterans Cemetery – Finger Lakes. Rev. James Fennessy, pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church, will officiate.
Family and friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Tuesday (June 6) at the Waterloo Fire Station, 39 E. Water St., Waterloo, NY. The memorial service will immediately follow at 6:00 p.m. at the fire station. Rev. Jerry Graziano, Commander of the Kirk-Casey Post 366 – American Legion, will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Waterloo Volunteer Fire Department, P.O. Box 513, Waterloo, NY, 13165.
Jim was born June 15, 1938, in Rochester, NY, the son of Harlan and Arlene Yackel Shaw. Jim graduated from Marion High School and attended Rochester Institute of Science. Jim served in the US Army Reserve retiring as a Command Sergeant Major. He was employed by the Seneca County Sheriff's Department, Waterloo Police Department, Clyde Police Department and the Rochester Museum.
Jim was a member of the Warner-VanRiper Post 435 American Legion in Waterloo and the Kirk-Casey Post 366 American Legion in Seneca Falls. He was a life member of the Waterloo Fire Department.
He survived by his children, Mark (Sandy) Shaw of Waterloo, NY and Linda A. Shaw of Waterloo, NY; grandson, Justin J. Shaw of Waterloo, NY; brother, Terry Shaw of Rochester, NY; his girlfriend, Joyce Brooks of Hallstead, PA; several nieces and nephews; and his "Furry Kid" Molly.
Jim was predeceased by his wife, Marie B. Griffith Shaw; his brother and sister-in-law, Donald (Evelyn) Shaw and his sister-in-law, Gail King.
