Seneca Falls - Sherwin Hill, 90, of Seneca Falls, went home to be with the Lord, Saturday (September 14, 2013) at Geneva General Hospital in Geneva.
Friends may call 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 17) at Fingerlakes Baptist Church, 1000 Yale Station Rd., in Varick. The service will be 1 p.m. at the church. Rev. Barry Somerville, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in North Wolcott Cemetery in Wolcott.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Fingerlakes Baptist Church.
Sherwin was born Nov. 19, 1922 in Sterling Station, the of Francis and Mildred Hoyt Hill. He was a graduate from Fairhaven High School and attended Houghton College. He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 - 1946. Sherwin retired in 1972 from the U.S. Postal Service in Fairhaven. During his retirement from the postal service, he worked for the NYS Canal System, retiring in 1977. He was a member of NARFE. Sherwin was a member of Fingerlakes Baptist Church. He was a past member of the Fairhaven Fire Dept. Sherwin was a past member of the Fairhaven and Seneca Falls American Legion Posts.
He is survived by his wife, Bernice E. Lapp Hill; step-son, Barry Lee (Patricia) Hall of Hurdle Mills, NC; step-daughter, Karen Hall Sloan of Kansas City, MO; step-grandson, Chris (Ann) Blake; step-granddaughter, Kimberly (Rick) Coonce; step- great grandchildren, Katherine Coonce, Kelly Coonce, and Harper Blake; one sister-in-law; two nieces; and very good friends, Herman and Joyce Schwingle of Williamson.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Francis, Jr. and Dwight Hill.
