FAYETTE - Doris A. Covey, of MacDougall Road, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her loving family, Saturday (November 26, 2022). Born June 22, 1942, in Osceola Mills, PA to the late Russell and Angeline Holden, Doris was known for her smile, kindness and zest for life and brought lasting memories to those she met. Doris moved to Fayette, NY and married the late Peter M. Rath whom she shared two beautiful children with: Thomas G. (Alicia) Rath and Jennifer (Chris) Salone (both of Fayette, NY). During her time in NY, Doris worked at Sarah Coventry, the largest direct seller of costume jewelry in the world at the time. She also enjoyed working as a cashier in the cafeteria at Romulus Central School. Doris was youthful and active throughout her entire life and found great joy in playing on a women's softball team, and playing sports with her children, grandchildren and neighborhood kids. She created countless beautiful memories at her home on MacDougall Road where family and friends frequently gathered. She will forever be known for the unconditional love she bestowed on all she met. Doris returned to Osceola Mills, PA in 1992 where she raised her children; William (Devon) Covey of Romulus, NY, Melinda (Jason) Poyneer of Romulus, NY, Kathryn Covey and Anna Covey. In 2004 Doris reunited all her children in Fayette, NY where she enjoyed her remaining years. Her greatest love was for her family whom she selflessly dedicated her life to, especially her grandchildren; Thomas, Carleigh, Greyson, Molly, Maddox, Curtis, Destiny, Joseph, Chase, Declan, and her great granddaughter, Malaya Harper (Jamie); her loving siblings Russell (Carol) Holden of Philipsburg, PA, Kenneth (Pat) Holden of Philipsburg, PA, Nancy (William) Baughman of Lake City, FL, Jerry (Marsha) Holden, of Philipsburg, PA, and Thomas (Lisa) Holden, of Philipsburg, PA; and many loving nieces and nephews. Doris is also survived by her best friend of 45 years, Trudy. Doris is predeceased by her loving brother Edward (Pat) Holden of Osceola Mills, PA. Doris fought a fierce, courageous battle against brain cancer the last four months of her life. She refused to give in and defied many odds in that short time. Her will to enjoy this life and be with those she loved defines the passionate mother, grandmother, sister, and friend that she was. She will be forever remembered, missed and loved by all who knew her. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 1120 S. Goodman St., Rochester, NY, 14620. Family and friends may call from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon Saturday (December 10, 2022) at Coe-Genung Funeral Home, 46 W. Main St., Waterloo, NY.
