Obituary of Mary Phyllis Sutterby

TYRE/SENECA FALLS – Mary P. Sutterby, 81, passed away Tuesday (June 28, 2022) at Geneva General Hospital.
Family and friends may call 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Tuesday (July 5) at Coe-Genung Funeral Home in Waterloo, N.Y. The funeral service will follow immediately at the funeral home. Rev. Kevin Grish, retired United Methodist minister, will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Waterloo, N.Y.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Tyre United Methodist Church, 714 Gravel Road, Seneca Falls, NY, 13148.
Mary was born October 26, 1940, in Leesburg, Va., the daughter of Joseph C. and Marie B. Teele. She has been a resident of Seneca County since 1966. She was a 1959 graduate of Marshall High School in Marshall, Va. Married Glen Sutterby, "the love of her life". Glen and Mary moved to Hawaii where they lived for two years and four months and where their first daughter was born. They moved back to Virginia for fours years before moving to New York where Glen and Mary made their home for 56 years and where their second daughter was born. While living in this area, Mary made many friendships. She was longtime and active member of Tyre United Methodist Church and was president of the United Methodist Women for the Tyre church. She was president of the Ladies Auxiliary for the Magee Fire Department. Mary organized annual reunions from 1998 to 2022 for the U.S. Army Security Agency Veterans.
She is survived by her husband, Glen Sutterby; daughters, Donna (Cortlandt) Godwin of Hillsville, Va. and Linda Ring of Seneca Falls, N.Y.; grandchildren, Chersti (Kevin) Kuhlmann, Corynn (Justin) Walker and Emily Godwin; great-grandchildren, Finn and Jack Kuhlmann; and many nieces and nephews.
Mary was predeceased by her parents; and brothers, Alfred, Donald and Harold Teele.
