Obituary of Charles Vincent Smith

SENECA FALLS – Charles "Chuck" "DAT" V. Smith, 56, died peacefully Saturday (November 20, 2021) at his home. In keeping with his wishes there will be no calling hours. A private graveside service will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Waterloo, NY, at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Montezuma National Wildlife Refuge, 3395 US-20, Seneca Falls, NY, 13148. DAT was born March 12, 1965, in NYC, NY, the son of John A. and Ralene Fink Smith. He was a 1983 graduate of Mynderse Academy. DAT graduated from SUNY Cobleskill with a Bachelor's in Agricultural Technology and Agricultural Business. After graduating from college, he began backpacking and traveling cross country and traveled 49 of the 50 states. He was a HAM radio operator and was sent with FEMA to Ground Zero for communications. Through his volunteer work with the American Red Cross, he served as a co-captain on the Disaster Action Team working with those that needed sheltering. He was also an instructor for health and safety. DAT was a volunteer for the Magee Fire Department. He was trained to instruct First Responder Level Care for various county agencies. DAT was an avid nature lover. He is survived by his loving wife Rebecca "Becky" Sell Schweitz Smith; and his faithful cats Tinkerbell and Bomber.
