Obituary of Edwin Gustaf Nelson

WATERLOO – Edwin G. Nelson, 96, of Waterloo, NY, passed peacefully to his eternal home Monday (May 10, 2021) surrounded with his loving family by his side, at his home. In keeping with the wishes of the family, there will be no calling hours. The memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday (May 15, 2021) at Seneca Community Church, 5738 NY – 96, Romulus, NY. Burial will be in Sampson Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Varick, NY, at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The Gideons International, P. O. Box 140800, Nashville, TN, 37214-0800. Ed was born August 28, 1924, in Barre, Vermont, the son of William and Wilhelmina Nelson. He was a 1943 graduate of Mynderse Academy, Seneca Falls, NY. Ed graduated from Syracuse University in Engineering, earning an Associate's degree. Ed is a U.S. Navy veteran having served his country during W.W. II. Ed and family were in business owning and operating Pulaski Wood and Supply, at one time in Pulaski, Waterloo and Penn Yan. Later, Pulaski Wood and Supply was moved to Waterloo, making bowling pins, baseball bats, and offering forestry services. Ed and his wife, in 1969 opened Ye Olde Wood Shoppe Village which successfully ran for many years. During the years Ye Olde Wood Shoppe Village was in business the family children joined the business. Ed was a longtime active member of First Baptist Church of Seneca Falls and Waterloo Baptist Church. He was also a very dedicated member of Gideons International. Ed was involved with many community events. Ed and his wife, started and co-chaired The Real Christmas event for Waterloo. He is survived by his wife of 75 years Jean C. Nelson; his children Alyce (Gary) Foster of Silver Creek, MD, Ruth (Jerry) Hayward of Waterloo, NY, Joy Rothfus of Seneca Falls, NY and Paul (Amy Jo) Nelson of Romulus, NY; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Ed was predeceased by son and daughter-in-law Roger and Sandy Nelson; brothers Harold, Helmer, and Albert; and sisters Doris Moore, Helen Sly, and Ruth Brower.
