Obituary of Rachael Ann Bellows

WATERLOO/WELLSVILLE – Rachael A. Bellows, 95, passed away peacefully Thursday (April 22, 2021) at Highland Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. In keeping with the wishes of the family, there will be no calling hours. The memorial service will be 11 a.m. Friday (May 14, 2021) at Trinity Episcopal Church. The Rev. J. Brad Benson, rector, will officiate. Burial will be in Trinity Episcopal Church Memorial Garden, Seneca Falls, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Episcopal Church, 27 Fall St., Seneca Falls, NY, 13148 or National Memorial Day Museum, 31 E. Williams St., Waterloo, NY, 13165. Rachael was born March 5, 1926, in Wellsville, NY, the daughter of Laurence and Sweetheart Wroten Pflager. She was a 1944 graduate of Wellsville High School. Rachael was a "stay at home" mother until her daughters were of school age. She then began employment at Sears and Roebuck catalog store and held various positions at First Trust Union Bank. In 1979, Rachael moved with her husband to Windsor Connecticut and worked for Hartford Insurance Company in a clerical position. For many years, while Rachael's daughters were growing up Rachael was a Girl Scout leader and counsellor. Upon retirement, they moved to Waterloo, NY, to enjoy boating on the Finger Lakes, Lake Ontario and Canada. She was an active member of Trinity Episcopal Church. Rachael was also an active member of Order of the Eastern Star, Seneca Chapter 78, later a member of Sar of the East Chapter 109 and Life member of Seneca Lake Chapter 301. She was active volunteer for the National Memorial Day Museum. She is survived by daughters Susan H. Allen of Wellsville, NY, Margaret A. Kernan of Watkins Glen, NY, and Nancy J. (Dale) Smith of Wellsville, NY; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Rachael was fondly referred to as "Honey" by her niece, Linda Young. Rachael was predeceased by her husband Richard W. Bellows and at the time of his passing they were married 71 years; great-granddaughter Katlyn Kernan; great-great grandson Duane Kernan; and sister Virginia Covill.
