Obituary of James Sumner White

WATERLOO – James S. White, 65, of Waterloo, NY, died Sunday (January 17, 2021) at Geneva General Hospital. Family and friends may call from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday (January 30) at Coe-Genung Funeral Home. The memorial service will follow immediately at the funeral home. Rev. James Fennessy, pastor of St. Mary's Catholic Church, will officiate. All attending calling hours and memorial service MUST wear face masks and social distance. All attending will enter the funeral home from the parking lot doors and exit the Main Street doors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, PO Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, TN, 38101-9908. Jim was born March 2, 1955, in Portland, CT, the son and oldest of five children born to Sumner W. and Margaret Clare White. At a young age, Jim, enjoyed Boy Scouts, baseball and spending time with the Church Street gang. He graduated from Waterloo Central High School in 1973. Jim graduated with an AAS degree from Alfred State University where he was an outfielder starting on the state champion baseball team. He furthered his education in photography, psychology, and mathematics at Hobart, FLCC, and Syracuse University. Jim had many talents including drawing, architecture, and learning the guitar. He enjoyed listening to music and spending time with his family and friends especially in the outdoors. Jim retired from Ferro Corporations as Director of IT. He will be remembered for his free spirit, sense of humor, air guitar skills and love for his daughters. He is survived by daughters Kristen (Anthony Lagana) A. White of Geneva, NY and Martha C. White of Seneca Falls, NY; brother William "Beezer" (Colleen Booth) White of Waterloo, NY; sisters Susan C. White of Syracuse, NY and Patricia "Peg" C. Avon of Waterloo, NY; brother-in-law Walter Bennett of Waterloo, NY; uncle James L. Clare of Canandaigua, NY; and many loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Jim was predeceased by his parents and his sister, Margaret "Mickie" Bennett.
