Obituary of Joan Elizabeth Brown

WATERLOO - Joan E. Brown, 81, of 48 Fayette St., died Thursday (June 9, 2016) at home with her loving family by her side. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday (June 12) at Coe-Genung Funeral Home in Waterloo. The funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday (June 13) at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 25 Center St., Waterloo. Rev. James Fennessy, pastor of the church, will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Waterloo. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Geneva Center of Concern, 58 Avenue D, Geneva, NY, 14456 or Lifetime Care Hospice, 3111 S. Winton Rd., Rochester, NY 14623. Joan was born June 17, 1934, in Waterloo, the daughter of William R. and Anna Teresa Hughes Balsley. She was a 1952 graduate of Waterloo High School. During the 1950s, Joan was employed with Goulds Pumps in Seneca Falls, for six years. In the 1980s, she was employed at the Fabric Store in Waterloo. Joan was a communicant of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She was a member of Waterloo Memorial Post 6433, V.F.W. Auxiliary. Joan enjoyed volunteering at the Geneva Center of Concern. She was one of the founders of "20 Stitches," a local sewing club that raised money for charities. She is survived by sons, Harry D. Brown, Jr. of Gananda and Andrew (Cynthia) Brown of Waterloo; daughters, Elizabeth (Kevin) Bullard of Cranston, R.I., Karen Brown of Winder, Ga., and Judith (Eric) Davis of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; ten grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; brother, William (Carol) Balsley of Rochester; and several nieces and nephews. Joan was predeceased by a grandsons, Ryan Brown and Aaron McDonald; sister, Barbara Lerkins, and former husband, Retired CSM Harry D.
