Obituary of Vera Sebek

Waterloo - Vera Sebek, 105, a former Virginiia St. resident, died Wednesday (August 19, 2015) at DeMay Living Center in Newark.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Sunday (Sept. 20) at First Presbyterian Church of Waterloo. Rev. Sarah West, pastor, will officiate.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Waterloo, 42 E. Main St., Waterloo, NY, 13165.
Vera was born Sept. 19, 1909 in Prague, Czechoslovakia, the daughter of Anthony and Blazena Pribikova Smid. She was a 1920 graduate of the Commercial Academy in Prague. Vera was educated in the Greek and Latin languages. She was employed by the Skoda Company in Prague as a correspondent in foreign languages, for two years. She then married the love of her life, Ladislav Sebek. Ladislav's career as an architect gave opportunity for Vera and Ladislav to travel throughout Europe, Asia, Africa, and the United States. She was a longtime and very active member of First Presbyterian Church of Waterloo. As a Virginia St. resident she enjoyed entertaining her neighbors in her home.
She is survived by her daughter, Eva Sebekova, of Prague, Czech Republic; nephew, Pavel Sebek of Prague Czech Republic; also special friends, Alice Burgdorf, and Kathy O'Connell both of Waterloo.
She was predeceased by her husband, Ladislav Sebek, who died Sept. 5 1980.
