Waterloo - Alton Henry Stahl, 98, of Waterloo, died Saturday (February 28, 2015) at Geneva General Hospital in Geneva. There will be no calling hours. The funeral service will be 7:00 p.m. Tuesday (March 3) at Coe-Genung Funeral Home in Waterloo. Spring burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Waterloo. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the organization of one's choice. Alton was born August 29, 1916 in a small farm house in Varick, the son of Melvin and Lucy Davis Stahl. He lived most of his life in Waterloo and graduated from Waterloo High School. Alton was a W.W. II veteran and served in Germany. He was honorably discharged and returned to this area where he met the love of his life, Mary Frances Young, while working at the American Can Company in Geneva as a machinist. He retired after working there for more than 42 years. He worked part time for over 22 years as a school bus driver for the Waterloo Central School District. He was a master mason with 72 years in that organization. He was a life time member of the Warner VanRiper Post 435, American Legion and the Waterloo Memorial Post 6411, V.F.W. He was also a member of Waterloo United Methodist Church. Alton loved birds and flowers and was very proud of his family and his home. He will be sorely missed by his family, friends, and neighbors, especially Larry and Linda French. Alton and Mary are survived by sons, Bruce (Diane) Stahl of Clyde, Glenn (Linda) Stahl of Jacksonville, FL, and Keith (Gina) Stahl of Corinth, TX; five grandchildren, Erica, Matthew, Ryan, Caitlin, and Ashley; three great-grandchildren, Nora, Mary and Ellen; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Mary Y. Stahl; two half-sisters, Alice M. Kidd and Ethel North. Condolences for the family may be sent to www.coegenungfuneralhome.com.
