Waterloo - Roland G. Velte, 88, of 101 Stark St., died Friday (February 13, 2015) at Geneva General Hospital in Geneva. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no calling hours or service. Spring burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery in Waterloo. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK, 73123-1718 or Beverly's Animal Shelter, 50 E. River St., Waterloo, NY, 13165. Roland was born Dec. 17, 1926, in Waterloo, the son of William B., Sr. and Hazel Kidd Velte. He was a graduate from Waterloo High School. Roland was a U. S. Army veteran, enlisting twice to serve his country. He began employment at Mid State Body Co. in Waterloo, then worked at Sylvania for many years, until his retirement. He operated a small engine repair shop, for a number of years. Roland was one of the original members of the Waterloo Stock Car Racers. He was one of the best stock drivers on dirt in Central New York, winning over 80 featured events at various tracks. He also participated in sports car rallies and motorcycle hill climbs. He was a life member of Waterloo Memorial Post 6433, V. F. W.. and Warner VanRiper Post 435, American Legion. Roland was a member of the National Rifle Association and Bass Anglers Sportsman Society. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Elizabeth Sinicropi Velte; sons, John (Peggy Eno) Velte of Seneca Falls, James B. (Sharon) Velte of Waterloo, and Jeffrey L. (Sue) Velte, of Auburn; granddaughters, Marcy (John) Purcell and Stephanie Velte; brother, William B. Jr. (Shelia Wilde) Velte of Canoga; sister, Eleanor L. Velte of Waterloo; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, one brother, Clifford E. Velte, step-mother, Eunice (Brown) Velte.
