Obituary of Helen Peterson

Waterloo - Helen M. Swarthout Peterson, 96, of Waterloo, died Saturday (January 17, 2015) at Geneva General Hospital in Geneva.
Friends may call 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday (Jan. 20) at Coe-Genung Funeral Home in Waterloo. The funeral service will be 10 a.m. on Wednesday (Jan. 21) at the funeral home. Rev. Ellen Donnan, pastor of Junius Presbyterian Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Dundee.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Junius Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 476, Waterloo, NY, 13165.
Helen was born July 25, 1918 in Dundee, the daughter of Edward and Myrtie Hallock Miller. She was a very active member of Junius Presbyterian Church. While a member of the church she served as a Sunday School teacher, the church choir director, participated in other church groups and worked preparing many church dinners. She was a member of the Junius Home Bureau and also a member of Magee Grange 139. Helen also worked with others leading a 4-H group.
She is survived by her daughter, Catherine "Kay" Strong of Waterloo; son, Ronald M. (Joyce) Swarthout of Phelps; twelve grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great - great grandchildren; two step grandchildren and two step great -grandchildren; sister, Jane Cadwell of Dundee, step daughter-in-law Nancy Peterson of Jamestown; and many nieces and nephews.
Helen was predeceased by her first husband, Ralph L. Swarthout in 1984 and her second husband, Stanley S. Peterson in 1993; one son, Carlton E. Swarthout, in 1986; and one stepson, Gordon Peterson; and one son-in-law, Richard Strong.
