Waterloo - William J. Scharett, 70, of Waterloo, died Wednesday (December 24, 2014) at Geneva General Hospital in Geneva. Friends may call 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Monday (Dec. 29) at Coe-Genung Funeral Home in Waterloo. The funeral service will be 2 p.m. Monday (Dec. 29) at the funeral home. Rev Mark Stento, former pastor of Waterloo Baptist Church, will officiate. Spring burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Waterloo. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Assoc., 6390 Fly Road, 2nd Floor, E. Syracuse, NY, 13057, American Heart Assoc., P.O. Box 417005, Boston, MA, 02241-7005, or the organization of one's choice. Bill was born March 28, 1944 in Seneca Falls, the son of George and Edith Silber Scharett. He began employment as cook at Willard State Psychiatric Center and worked there until it closed. After Willard closed he transferred to Newark Development Center to continue his employment. Later, he was a truck driver for various trucking companies. He is survived by: sons, Michael Scharett of Newark and Daniel (Cheryl) Scharett of Liverpool; daughter, Kathy (Terry) Hurlbut of Stanley; six grandchildren; brothers, David L. (Ann) Scharett of Waterloo and Joseph L. (Eileen) Scharett of Geneva; his companion, Cynthia Meckley of Waterloo; and many nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by brother, Robert Scharett; sisters, Helen Wealand, June Eckert, Sally White, and Nancy Worthington. Condolences for the family may be sent to www.coegenungfuneralhome.com.
