Obituary of Dorothy Cring

Waterloo/Varick - Dorothy S. Cring, 90, formerly of 5397 Rt. 96, died Sunday (November 2, 2014) at Huntington Living Center in Waterloo. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Thursday (Nov. 6) at Coe-Genung Funeral Home in Waterloo. The funeral service will be 12 p.m. Thursday (Nov. 6) at the funeral home. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Waterloo. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Varick Volunteer Fire Dept., 4682 Rt. 96A, Geneva, NY, 14456 or Pathway Home, P. O. Box 516, Seneca Falls, NY, 13148. Dorothy was born Dec. 4, 1923 in Waterloo, the daughter of Claude and Gladys R. Buck. She was a 1941 graduate of Waterloo High School. Dorothy began working at Willard Psychiatric Hospital in Willard as a mental hygiene therapy aid, while employed at Willard she was given the opportunity to study at the Marion S. Whelan School of Nursing, graduating as a LPN. She returned to Willard continuing her employment as a nurse, until retiring. She was a life member of Ovid Post 6200, V.F.W. Auxiliary. She is survived by daughter, Cynthia (Walter) Meckley of Romulus; sons, Richard S. (Barbara) Cring of Geneva, Gary V. (JoAnne) Cring of Malone, and Lloyd Robert Cring, Jr. of Sanford, VA; eleven grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; and sister, Jean McGhan of Waterloo; and many nieces and nephews. Dorothy was predeceased by husband, Lloyd R. Cring, on June 6, 1993; brothers, Ralph, Kenneth, Seward, and Donald Sloan; and sisters, Bernice Rooney and Edna Ross.
