Junius – Clarence L. Brownell, 93, of Junius, died Thursday (December 1, 2016) at Huntington Living Center in Waterloo. Friends may call from 2 – 4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 4) at Coe-Genung Funeral Home in Waterloo. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday (Dec. 5) at the funeral home. Roderick E. Coe, will officiate. Burial will be in Southwick Cemetery in Junius. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Southwick Cemetery Association, c/o Kay Brownell, 675 Dublin Rd., Clyde, NY, 14433. Clarence was born April 24, 1923, in Waterloo, the son of Ernest L. and Ruth E. Cottrell Brownell. He was a farmer, owning and operating his family farm. He also owned and operated Dragline Backhoe Service for many years. He served his community and Town of Junius Highway Dept. for 50 years, of which 20 years were served as Highway Superintendent, retiring at the age of 83. Clarence was the last charter member, past fire chief, and life member of the Junius Volunteer Fire Department. He was a member of the Seneca County Fire Chiefs Association. He was a longtime member of the Junius Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his sons, C. Ernest (Kay) Brownell of Clyde, Ronald (Carol) Brownell of Canaseraga, and Jerry (Meg) Brownell of Clyde; daughter-in-laws, Charlotte (John) Yannotti of Geneva and Carol Brownell of Mexico; thirteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; sister, Betty Knapp of Trumansburg; brother-in-law, Ray Garrett of Seneca Falls; many nieces and nephews. Clarence was predeceased by his wife, Evelyn C. Lash Brownell in 2007; sons, Dennis Brownell in 2000 and Stephen Brownell in 2016; and sisters, Lucille Bingham, Judy Garrett, and Susan Rickerson.
