Richard Harold MacGill Obituary

WATERLOO – Richard H. MacGill, 77, passed away Thursday March 26, 2026 in Geneva General Hospital with family by his side.


Family and friends may call from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday April 1st at Coe-Genung Funeral Home, Waterloo, NY. The funeral service will be 3 p.m. Wednesday April 1st at the funeral home. Dale Andrews, pastor of the Geneva Assembly of God Church, will officiate. Spring burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Waterloo, NY.


Richard was born August 6, 1948, in Waterloo, NY, the son of Richard B. and Mary E. Pratz MacGill. He was a 1967 graduate of New York Military Academy. Dick was indentured into Local 840 IBEW on February 4, 1972. While with Local 840 IBEW, he served as President, Vice President, E-Board and wrote articles for the IBEW Journal. He was a friend of Bill W's since November 4, 1986 and held different offices on the Council of Alcohol Addictions in Geneva. In 1962, Dick went to the Ted Williams Baseball Camp in Lakeville, MA and won a trophy for Most Valuable Player. He also had his picture taken with Ted Williams, this picture was cherished by Dick. He also met Clayton Moore and Muhammid Ali. While Dick attended the NYMA he met many NY Knicks from 1964 to 1966 while the Knicks practiced on the NYMA campus before the season opened. Dick was captain and co-captain of the NYMA basketball and baseball teams from 1965 – 1966. He enjoyed sports, fishing, deer hunting, golf and camping. He was a 55-year member of the First Presbyterian Church of Waterloo. He was a life member of the Seneca Falls Elks Club and Moose Lodge 746 in Elkland, PA. Dick was a longtime member of Seneca Lodge 113 and Pocahontas Lodge F&AM. He was a member of the Corning Consistory (Thrice Point Master in 1992), Rochester Consistory, and Noble in the Damascus Shriners in Rochester.


Dick loved his family very much! He is survived by his children Brian E. MacGill, Kristie (Mark) Pontius, and Kellie MacGill; grandchildren Sarah, Jessica, Brandon, Anthony, Daniel, Scotty, Ian, and Abby; six great-grandchildren; niece Leah (Will) Paprocki; nephew Kevin (Susan) Sanders; and cousin Jim (Kathy) Pratz.


He was predeceased by his parents; sister and brother-in-law Elizabeth and Ronald Sanders; aunt Janet Pratz; uncle and aunt Harold and Doris Pratz; and cousin Charles Pratz.
