TYRE/WATERLOO – Russell C. Smith, 87, of Tyre/Waterloo, passed away Tuesday (December 30, 2025) at his home with his loving family by his side.

Family and friends may call from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday (January 14) at Coe-Genung Funeral Home. Rev. Diane Walker, pastor of the Wolcott United Methodist Church, will officiate. Spring burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Clyde, NY.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tyre United Methodist Church, 714 Gravel Rd., Seneca Falls, NY, 13148 or the Antique Tractor Club, 8483 Wilsey Rd., Port Byron, NY, 13140.

Russell was born November 2, 1938, in Lyons, NY, the son of Clarence F. and Ethel M. Noble Smith. He was a graduate of Clyde Savannah High School. A cash crop farmer, Russell took great pride in owning and operating with his son Mark their farm on Rt. 414. He also enjoyed International Harvester tractors and equipment, spending time at farm auctions and visiting with neighbors and friends at the shop. Russell was a member of the Tyre United Methodist Church. He served on the Grievance Committee for the Town of Tyre. He was a member of the Bristol Valley Loafers Hunting Club and the Seneca County Farm Bureau.

He is survived by his wife Betty J. Smith; daughter Colleen (John) Nearpass of Waterloo, NY; stepdaughters Linda Smith of Waterloo, NY, Amber (Richard) Amidon of Waterloo, NY, and Suzanne (Aaron) LeFever of Auburn, NY; grandson Mark (Nicole) Nearpass of Canandaigua, NY; granddaughter Elizabeth Nearpass of Australia; step-granddaughters Emily Martin and Logan Amidon; step-grandson Dylan Amidon; great-grandchildren Elainna, Everett, Addie, and Deacon Nearpass; sister Louise Olschewske of Waterloo, NY; brothers Ronald (Jane) Smith of Waterloo, NY and Lawrence (Mary Jean) Smith of Clyde; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Russ was predeceased by his son Mark R. Smith; parents; and brother-in-law Donald Olschewske.
