WATERLOO – Matthew "Moose" E. Lewis, 64, of Waterloo, NY, passed away unexpectedly Friday (December 19, 2025) at Geneva General Hospital.

Matt was born September 5, 1961, in Waterloo, NY, the son of David and Lenora Cole Lewis. He was a graduate of Geneva High School. After working for 37 years at the NYS Experimental Station for Cornell University in Geneva, NY, Matt retired in 2017.

Matt devoted his life to his family, and his doggies. He was a carpenter, completing countless home improvement projects, including building many things like clocks, birdhouses, toy boxes, and school projects. He enjoyed nature, camping, and fishing. One of his biggest accomplishments was building an entire house for his mother. He had a big heart and loved making people laugh. Always had a smart joke to share. He was always willing to lend a helping hand.

He will be deeply missed by his loving wife of 43 years Deborah L. Olsowske Lewis; sons Joshua (Elizabeth) Lewis of Stanley, NY and Nathan (Jenni Lakota) Lewis of Buffalo, NY; grandchildren Aria, Liam, Grady, Zoey, and Ellie Lewis: doggies Porter and Barley; siblings David (Joanna) Lewis of AZ, LeAnn Lewis of AZ, Adam (Karen) Lewis of Newark, NY, and Richard (Dottie) Lewis of PA; mother-in-law Cathy Olsowske; and many close family members and special neighborhood friends.

Matt was predeceased by his parents David and Lenora Cole Lewis; grandparents Roscoe and Margie Cole; father-in-law Stuart Olsowske; mother-in-law Mary Lawthers and her husband Robert Lawthers; brother-in-law Brian Dibble; and Godmother Ruth Olsowske.

In keeping with his wishes there will not be calling hours. A celebration of his life will be held at the convenience of his family.
