Gerald was born August 8, 1935 in Connor, ME, the son of Merle James and Lucy Etta Stitham MacDougal. He was a 1954 graduate of Avoca High School and went on to receive a Bachelor's degree from Ithaca College in 1958. Gerald then served in the US Army from 1958-1961. He married his beloved wife, Catherine Elizabeth Stewart on December 20, 1959. Their son James Alan "Jim" MacDougal was born May 4, 1961. Gerald started Mac's Drive-In alongside his brother Raymond and their wives, Cathy and Vera, on June 18, 1961. He then began teaching in Geneva from 1962-1964, and taught math at Midlakes Central School in Clifton Springs from 1966 until his retirement in 1990. During that time, Gerald and Cathy invited their second child into the world, daughter Barbara Ann Butler, on December 17, 1965.

Gerald had many hobbies: world travel, skiing, boating and sailing, flying (he became a pilot in his 40s). He was known as a gracious host and loved to share wine and happy hour with friends and family, even throughout this year. He enjoyed reading, visiting Florida, and mowing grass, but most of all, spending time with his wife Cathy.

Gerald is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Catherine Elizabeth MacDougal of Waterloo, NY; children James Alan "Jim" (Kelly) MacDougal of Waterloo, NY and Barbara Ann (John) Butler of Erie, PA; grandchildren Katherine and Paige Butler; brother Ray MacDougal; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
