WATERLOO/GENEVA – Lois Kay Pettinger, 89, passed away peacefully in her sleep Monday (June 30, 2025) at Living Center North, Geneva, NY.
In keeping with her wishes, there will be no calling hours. The funeral service will be at 9:30 AM Saturday (July 19) at the Geneva Presbyterian Church, 24 Park Pl. Geneva, NY with a reception to follow. Rev. Colin Pritchard will officiate. Burial will be at 11 AM Monday (July 21) at Maple Grove Cemetery in Waterloo, NY.
Lois was born on April 30th, 1936 in Seneca Falls, NY, the daughter of Belmont and Florence Van Ness Thayer. She was a graduate of Waterloo High School, and went on to receive a Bachelor's degree from St. Lawrence University. Lois worked as the assistant to the president of Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, NY. Later, she enjoyed the outdoors while working at Styer's Peony Farm.
She was a longtime member of the Geneva Presbyterian Church, serving as an Elder and Deacon. She was an avid reader, enjoyed many types of music, dancing with Pete, and playing card games. However, her absolute favorite activity was spending time with family and friends and watching the beautiful sunsets at her cottage on Seneca Lake.
Lois is survived by sons Russell E. "Skip" (Kelly) Kincaid, Jr. and Craig E. Pettinger; daughters Kathleen Jo "KJ" Deal and Meghan Kay (Teri Ramos) Kincaid; grandchildren Caroline, Jackie, Jeremy, Amanda, Kimber, Ryan, Alissa, Warren and Elizabeth; along with nieces; a nephew; and several great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her loving husband George E. "Pete" Pettinger in 2024; her parents; daughter Cheryl Ann Pettinger Solberg; grandson Joshua Luke Deal; son-in-law Jack E. Deal; an infant brother; and an infant daughter.
Known by family as "The Dog Whisperer," Lois was passionate about all of her furry friends and always viewed them as members of the family.
