CLYDE — Keith Bruce Malchoff Sr., 97, passed away Saturday (April 5, 2025) at DeMay Living Center in Newark, NY. In keeping with the family's wishes, there will be no calling hours. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in Maple Grove Cemetery, Clyde, NY. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to Beverly Animal Shelter, 50 E. River Rd., Waterloo, NY 13165. Keith was born March 27, 1928 in Galen, NY, the son of Carl and Jane Godfrey Malchoff. He was a 1947 graduate of Clyde Central School, a retired farmer, councilman for the town of Galen and resided on Glover Rd for many years. He previously worked at Production Credit in Sodus, NY and built/ran the Virginia St. Washland in Waterloo, NY. Like many rural youths of the 20th century, Keith enjoyed hunting and fishing; his interest in hunting lasted most of his adult life. His love of farming and the outdoors influenced his three sons, though the interest varied widely between the brothers, with only Keith Jr. (KB) "getting the farming bug." Keith's love of woods and streams led him to build a fishing and hunting camp in Williamstown, NY. That camp, and his interest in constructing farm ponds (stocked with trout), greatly influenced the career path of his youngest son, Mark, and son Chris' preference for rural living. Keith's practical understanding of the biology of farm and game animals offered some "conversational common ground," when other topics of joint conversation suffered due to the vagaries of time, distance and divergent political opinions. Keith's beef cattle operation in the 1960's provided plenty of work and practical educational opportunities for Keith Jr., Chris and Mark. In some cases, the lessons gleaned came from negative results with farm equipment maintenance, but those lessons continue to influence his offspring to the present. Keith is survived by sons Keith (Lynn) Malchoff of Yuma, CO, Christian (Debbie) R. Malchoff of Phelps, NY, and Mark (Cindy) Malchoff of Plattsburgh, NY; stepsons Rodney Shepherd of Seneca Falls, NY and Rick DeLeys of AZ; eight grandchildren Saralynn (Lee)Vetter, Carl Malchoff, Drew (Karen) Malchoff, Megan (Juan) Paz, Adam Malchoff, Laura Malchoff, Erin Malchoff, and step-granddaughter Julie DeLeys Russell; seven great-grandchildren Laurynn Vetter, Rex Vetter, Hazel Paz, Miles Paz, Thaddaeus Malchoff, Hayden Malchoff, and Titus Malchoff; and caregiver and special niece and nephew Joyce (Jesse) Lee of Clyde, NY. The family would like to pay special thanks to caregiver Robin Everts and family. He was predeceased by his wife Dolores Malchoff; previous wives Nelda and Alice; his parents; brother Godfrey Malchoff; and sister Elinor Abplanalp.
