Waterloo – William "Butch" A. Atkachonis, 69, 59 Taylor Ave., died Sunday (November 11, 2018) at Geneva General Hospital, with his loving family by his side. Friends may call 1 to 4 p.m. Thursday (Nov. 15) at Coe-Genung Funeral Home. The memorial mass will be 10 a.m. Friday (Nov. 16) at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Rev. James Fennessy, pastor, will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church, 25 Center St., Waterloo, NY, 13165. Butch was born June 4, 1949, in Pittston, PA, the son of William F. and Rose Zambetti Atkachonis. He was a 1967 graduate of Pittston Area High School. Butch retired in 2002 after many years of employment with Goulds Pumps, Seneca Falls, NY. He and his wife, Jane, then purchased and operated Engravin' in Waterloo. Butch was an active member of the community and a former chair of Waterloo Town Planning Board. He was a member of Loyal Order of the Moose. Butch was also a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He was an avid boater, carpenter and handyman. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Jane M. Lanphear Atkachonis; son, Michael (Vicki Gruber) Atkachonis of Waterloo, NY; daughter, Mary Atkachonis of Waterloo, NY; granddaughter, Alexis Atkachonis; step-grandchildren, Erin, Patricia, Andy, and Joey Salazar; sister, Angela Campanella of Cape Coral, FL; many cousins, nieces and nephews; and many very close friends.
