WATERLOO - L. Fern Mathews, 102, formerly of 50 N. Walnut St., died Monday (May 16, 2016) at Seneca Nursing and Rehabilita tion Center in Waterloo. There will be no calling hours. The funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday (May 20) at Coe-Genung Funeral Home in Waterloo. Rev. Sarah West, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Waterloo, will officiate. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery in Waterloo. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Waterloo, 42 E. Main St., Waterloo, NY, 13165. Fern was born May 2, 1914, in Geneva, the daughter of William Henry and Grace Roberts Chambers. She was a 1932 graduate of Geneva High School. She retired as a dental assistant after 17 years of employment with Dr. Albert A. Arno's office in Waterloo. She was the oldest member of First Presbyterian Church of Waterloo. As an active member of the church, she was a member of the Aloha Class and the Mary Martha Circle. Fern was a member of Waterloo Senior Citizens. She is survived by her nephews, William (Sandy) Trice of Colorado Springs, Colo., Kirk Chambers of Flint, Texas, William (Beverly) Chambers of St. Augustine, Fla., and Mark (Jane) Chambers of Geneva, N.Y.; nieces, Gail (David) Milburn of Flint, Texas, Jane Trice of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Diane (Jim) Appel of Rochester, N.Y.; great- and great-great-nephews and great- and great-great-nieces; and a very special friend and caregiver, Pat Ridley of Waterloo. She was predeceased by her husband, Deedrick (Pete) Mathews; sons, Laurance E. Mathews and Robert W. Mathews; sister Winona Trice; brothers, Laurance Chambers, Guy Chambers and Robert Chambers and a very dear friend and caregiver, Vivian Poffenberger Bertino, who died May 8, 2016.
