Waterloo - Jeanne Louise Ward (ne'e Lord) died peacefully surrounded by love and respect on March 5, 2016 in Geneva, NY. Jeanne was the widow of Richard Ward, and is survived by children, Harold Ward, Virginia Soares and James Ward; grandchildren, Dana Slaughterbeck, Alicia Chrisler, Charles Ward and Jared Ward; brothers, James Lord and John Lord; and cousin, Linda Lord. Jeanne was born in July of 1930 in Canandaigua, NY. She and her parents, Samuel and Sarah Lord, spent her first few years trying to make a homestead work in central Alberta, Canada. She was a graduate of the Geneva High School Class of 1949 and she had a lifelong love of learning especially science, history and art. She loved travel and gardening. She was very civic minded and encouraged those around her to give of their time volunteering and to vote. She served as a New York State Republican Party committee member, as a member of the Town of Waterloo Planning board and as an election volunteer. Respecting Jeanne's wishes, a viewing was held for her family only. In lieu of flowers, well wishers are encouraged to contribute to the National Association of Mental Illness (NAMI). Condolences for the family may be sent to www.coegenungfuneralhome.com.
